Kitui Governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu has appointed the Chief Officer in the Ministry of Administration and Public Service Management Agnes Mulewa to be the Acting County Secretary, following the departure of Dr. Joshua Chepchieng who held the docket since 2019.

Announcing the changes earlier today during a meeting of the Senior County Management Team, Governor Ngilu asked all officials and staff of the County Government to give maximum support and cooperation to Agnes Mulewa, saying that she has great confidence in her ability to steerage public service and coordinate service delivery by the County Government.

At the same time Governor Ngilu has lauded Dr. Chepchieng for his commitment and excellence in serving the County Government of Kitui for the last three years, saying that his long experience in the civil service had come in handy in helping to navigate difficult matters that the County Government had come through.

Dr. Chepchieng departed from the County Government following a two year row with the County Assembly of Kitui, which sued the Governor and the County Public Service Board over his appointment.

In appreciating her elevation to be Acting County Secretary, CO Agnes Mulewa thanked the Governor for the confidence she had shown in her and assured her that she will work round the clock to ensure excellent service delivery to the people of Kitui as well the welfare of all staff in the County Government.

She said that she saw her appointment as one more expression of the long standing commitment of the Governor to promote and mentor women into positions of leadership and decision making. She thanked the Governor for giving her the opportunities to serve and lead.

CO Agnes Mulewa is a former don at the South Eastern Kenya University who was first appointed as Chief Officer in the Office of the Governor in 2017, before being transferred to head the Department of Administration and Public Service Management, which is the largest in the County Government.
