In fulfilment of her women empowerment and wealth creation pledges, Governor Charity Ngilu today issued empowerment fund cheques worth Sh.7.2 million to Kitui Central groups.
A total of 150 groups of women, youth, PLWDs and bodaboda operators spread across Kyangwithya East and Kyangwithya West Wards of Kitui Central Sub-County benefited from the county revolving fund.
The Governor was represented by CEC for Trade, Cooperatives and Investments Esther Kilonzi, Trade Chief Officer Fernandes Mbindu, County Fund Administrator Dorothy Mumangi and Assistant Director for Civic Education Shadrack Musyoki.
The county officials also intensified Ngilu’s calls on the Kitui Electorate and the entire Kamba Community to rally behind Azimio La Umoja’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga in his march to State House.
“Our Governor has shown us the way. Raila’s quest for the presidency is unstoppable that’s why we have chosen to join him as he flexes to form the next government in order to broaden our stake at the national leadership.
“Time is ripe for Kambas to sit at the big table where national resources are shared and distributed and Raila Odinga is our express ticket,” emphasized CEC Kilonzi.
In Kyangwithya East, the cheques distribution exercise took place at Mutune, Ngenuka Nenda and Kwa Ukungu while in Kyangwithya West the beneficiary groups assembled at Mulutu, Ithiiani and Itoleka centers.
While encouraging more groups to apply for the funds, the CEC said the Sh.180 million kitty was meant to boost income generating ventures undertaken by the beneficiary groups.
She also noted that the beneficiaries will enjoy a three-month grace period before repaying the loaned monies.
The jubilant residents expressed their gratitude to Governor Ngilu for her commitment to transform the lives of Kitui people and assured her of their unwavering support for her reelection bid in the forthcoming General Election.
