Kitui Deputy Governor Dr Wathe Nzau, held a meeting at his office with *a team from International Institute of Environment and Development(IIED) led by Mr Kelvin Johnstone, who was accompanied by the Deputy Director Kitui Caritas Mr Peter Saitoti.

In that meeting, the Deputy Governor was informed that, in 2018 IIED, Catholic Diocese of Kitui-Caritas Kitui in partnership with Kitui County Government- Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, started to develop a County Energy Plan(CEP) as required by law, using Energy as an enabler for lives and livelihood, transforming other sectors to benefit the people of Kitui.

Early this year (2022), the CEP process was finalized and Kitui County Government, was declared the first County in Kenya, to develop an Integrated and Inclusive County Energy Plan (CEP.)

The program is financed by United Kingdom(U.K) Government, under the United Kingdom Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions(UK PACT), to train Government under Civil Society Organisations, on how to apply Energy Delivery Models(EDM) concepts and tools across their work, focusing on climate change impacts.

Also present was the CECM in the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Livestock Development Emmanuel Kisangau, Assist Director in the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources Rechael Mwangangi and Civil Society representative Mr Kilonzi Kangangi among, other officers from Kitui Caritas.
