The news that Augustus Kyalo Muli, the decorated Dubai based businessman who ventured into Kitui County Assembly Speaker politics and lost to Hon Kevin Katisya Kinengo is quiting his short political journey to do philanthropy through his CBO and Foundation have left many Kitui residents in shock.
Dubbed, the People’s Speaker, Augustus Kyalo Muli lost the Speaker elections but gained the political battle.
Before these elections, only a handful of people knew this Kalundu born international businessman and alumni of the prestigious Starehe Boys Centre.
Thanks to the Speaker elections, Kitui Central in particular got a chance to interact with this generous and down to earth son of Kitui.
He started off by opening his mega house in Kalundu to all villagers for a house warming party that was attended by almost 1,000 people. The event, just before the 2022 general elections brought together lots of dignitaries both local and international. Many MCA candidates who attended the event got huge financial support for their campaigns. And thence started Kyalo’s journey into Kitui politics.
But after losing the election, it appears that Kyalo now wants to hung up his political boots and concentrate on his businesses and community service.
During an interview with the press, Kyalo has hinted that his community based organisations will focus on providing clean water to homesteads in partnership with various local and international agencies.
“I am hoping to work very closely with the Governor of Kitui and the Hon Speaker to see how my organisations can work with the County Administration for the benefit of Kitui people.”
But why quit so sudden?
Why not give yourself time to go deeper to understand the dynamics of Kitui politics and hopefully try for another post come 2027?
“This election has shown me how green I am in politics. I am too trusting. I am too open. I guess what I need is to focus on what I am good at, and let the politicians do their job.” Replies the businessman.

All eyes will definitely be on Kyalo Muli’s Kyalo kya Maendeo Organization and his soon to be launched Foundation. Let us hope that for a change we can get someone in Kitui genuinely interested in serving people and not just politics for personal selfish gains. If he is the former, then we wish the People’s Speaker the very best of luck and will definitely support him all the way as he serves Kitui people
