The County Government of Kitui has embarked on a countywide distribution of drought recovery seeds worth Kshs. 10 million to farmers ahead of the imminent March-May rainy season.

Kitui Agriculture and Livestock Development CEC Member Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele flagged off the consignment of 44,954 kilograms of green gram and cowpea seeds at his office earlier today.

Speaking during the flag-off, Dr. Kimwele said that the drought-tolerant seeds will be distributed to 22,477 households across Kitui.

The CECM said the beneficiaries were identified through public participation for purposes of transparency and equitability.

He further affirmed that county agricultural extension officers will continually offer technical support to the farmers in line with Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s agenda to spur the county’s agricultural sector.
